The concept of Angel Advocates was born from the personal experiences of owner Jan Franklin. It was so frustrating to constantly see families who had loved ones in a care facility struggle with the lack of available resources to help them with the added physical and emotional burdens. While there were numerous businesses offering services for in-home care, there was a substantial need for services to help families shoulder the burdens of having a loved one already in, or transitioning to, a care facility. (Care facility definition includes assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and adult foster care homes).

We know from experience how emotional and stressful it is for families to juggle the demands of having a loved one in a care facility while trying to maintain an already full life of their own. The added stress often decreases the quality of health, life, and relationships of all concerned. Additionally, pre-existing emotional issues often surface. Frustration, fears, and guilt come out actually as anger, impatience, and judgment. How incredibly sad it would be for loved ones to spend their last years communicating with their family in this way. How incredibly sad it would be for the family to spend those last years feeling overwhelmed, guilty, and resentful of the added burdens.

Angel Advocates is committed to providing safe, dependable and high quality services to these families. With heartfelt determination and unique qualifications, Jan brings added value to her customers. She is a former

 bank executive, trainer, seminar leader, business owner, and published writer. She is a trained and certified Child and Victims Advocate, having served many volunteer hours assisting families and children with trauma situations. A graduate of the Grief Recovery Institute, Jan is also a certified Grief Recovery Specialist. We tend to think about grief in relationship to death, but grief is really all about loss--loss of home, loss of familiar routines, loss of independence, loss of a parent/child relationship that becomes role reversal. Jan’s training in this area has enhanced her ability to ensure that the emotional needs of aging loved ones and their families are considered along with all of the “to do” needs.

We are currently available in three counties located in Washington State: Kitsap, Pierce and King counties. However, if you are outside this area, we would still appreciate hearing from you. This will help us determine growth potential in areas where Angel Advocates could best serve new communities.
